University of Notre Dame Balfour-Hesburgh Scholars Join MAC’s College & Career Prep Summer Program

MAC welcomed scholars from the University of Notre Dame this month. The students are part of the Balfour-Hesburgh Scholars Program, which consists of students from under-resourced high schools or low-income backgrounds. The Balfour-Hesburgh Scholars will join MAC’s College and Career Prep (CCP) Summer program for 6 weeks. They will assist teachers and students with various projects and activities, such as leadership skill development, critical thinking skills and SAT test prep.

“The Balfour-Hesburgh Scholars Program is excited to work with the Mexican American Council this summer for our pilot summer service program. Service means a lot to our scholars and we wanted to open up an opportunity for an immersion into a community with need. A lot of our scholars are first-generation college students, come from low-income backgrounds, and are first or second generation immigrants. With this in mind, we thought that a partnership with MAC was perfect. We have an opportunity to inspire future leaders and give them the tools to succeed in college and beyond.” said Balfour-Hesburgh Scholars Program Assistant, Charlie Ortega Guifarro.
